Caring for the living is the heart of caring for the dead.
In 1952, Thomas Wexford opened a small funeral home on a quiet Savannah street with one conviction: that every family deserves to be met with patience, honesty, and gentle hands at the hardest moment of their lives. Three generations later, the Wexford and Greene families still answer the phone ourselves, still sit with families for as long as they need, and still believe that caring for the living is the heart of caring for the dead. We are licensed funeral directors, neighbors, and a family who has had the privilege of serving thousands of Savannah families — and we would be honored to serve yours.

From the families we’ve walked beside.
From the first phone call at 2 a.m., they treated our mother — and us — with such tenderness. They never rushed us, never pushed anything, and explained every cost without our having to ask. We felt held.
I was overwhelmed and they were the calm in the storm. They walked me through veterans honors for my husband and handled the VA paperwork I had no idea how to do. A truly caring family.
My father pre-planned with them years ago. When the time came, there was nothing for us to decide and nothing to fight over — it was all his wishes, already cared for. That was his last gift to us.
Our care doesn’t end after the service.

Grief has no timeline. If the first warm days of summer feel heavier than you expected, that is grief, and it is allowed. Our monthly support group meets this Tuesday at 6:30 — there is a chair waiting for you, no need to call ahead.
A gentle reminder: planning ahead is not morbid — it is one of the most loving things you can do for your family. There is no cost to record your wishes with us, and no obligation. Come have a cup of coffee with us and talk it through.
To the family of Captain Bobby Castellano — it was our deep honor to help send a Navy veteran and waterman home with the honors he earned. Fair winds, Captain.
