Common questions

Questions families often ask.

If you don’t find what you’re looking for here, please call us — no question is too small, and there is never any pressure.

When a death occurs

  • First, take a breath — you do not have to do everything at once. If the death was expected and at home under hospice care, call us when you are ready. If it occurred at a hospital or care facility, the staff will help and you can call us at any hour to begin. Our number is answered 24 hours a day by a caring funeral director who will gently walk you through the very next step.

Pricing

  • Cost depends entirely on the choices that are meaningful to your family — you pay only for what you select. We provide a complete, itemized General Price List so you can see the price of every individual item, and you are never required to buy a package. Prices are available in person and by telephone. We are always glad to talk through options with no pressure.

  • We accept several payment methods and can discuss options privately and without judgment. We also help families access insurance assignments and veterans benefits, and we will always provide a written, itemized statement of the goods and services you select before any payment is due.

Common questions

  • No. Embalming is not required by law. In most cases it is not necessary when refrigeration is available, or when the disposition is a direct cremation or an immediate burial. Embalming may be chosen — or, in certain circumstances, required by a provider for a public viewing — and we will always explain when and why before any decision.

Cremation

  • Cremation can be as simple or as ceremonial as your family wishes — from a straightforward direct cremation, to cremation with a memorial gathering afterward, to a traditional service with viewing followed by cremation. For a direct cremation you are not required to buy a casket; an alternative container is always available. We will walk you through every option and cost.

Pre-planning

  • Planning ahead is one of the most loving gifts you can give your family. It spares them difficult decisions during a tender time, ensures your own wishes are honored, and — if you choose to pre-fund — can protect against future cost increases. There is no cost and no obligation simply to record your wishes with us.

  • No. Recording your wishes and keeping them on file with us is free. If you decide you would like to pre-fund your arrangements to lock in today’s pricing, we will explain every option and cost in plain, itemized language — and there is never any pressure to do so.

Veterans

  • Yes, and we consider it a privilege. We coordinate military funeral honors, help your family access VA burial and memorial benefits earned through service, and assist with national and state cemetery arrangements. We do not mark up any government benefit.

Services

  • Absolutely — and we encourage it. A service should reflect the life that was lived. We help families weave in music, photographs, readings, cherished objects, favorite flowers, and traditions of faith or culture. Many families find this personalization to be a profound source of comfort.

  • Yes. We are honored to serve families of every faith, culture, and tradition — and families of no particular faith at all. We will respectfully accommodate your customs and work alongside your clergy, or help you find an officiant if you would like one.
