Walter Eugene Pope
January 8, 1933 — April 30, 2026
Aged 93 · Pooler, GA
Walter Eugene Pope, 93, of Pooler, went home to the Lord on April 30, exactly as he hoped — peacefully, surrounded by song, with his family near.
A master carpenter by trade, Walter built homes, cabinets, and pews — including the very pews in the church he served as deacon for over fifty years. He measured twice, cut once, and lived the same way: deliberate, honest, and built to last.
He and his late wife Mabel raised six children, and the family he leaves behind fills four pews and overflows with grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him as a wellspring of patience, scripture, and butterscotch candy.
A life of faith, well and fully lived. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Survived by
His six children, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and his church family at Greater Faith Baptist.
211 candles have been lit in Walter’s memory

- Rev. Cornelius Banks
Deacon Pope was the backbone of this church for half a century. He built our pews with his own hands and filled them with his own family. Heaven gained a craftsman.
